Jasmine takes a swim; Luke and Sandy buy a car; and other Greyhound mis-adventures....

It's been awhile since we have posted so we are trying to catch up! We have had some good times over the last month as you can see from the pics below!

As you can see from our postings, Jasmine and Clayton spend a lot of time at our house! Their momma brings them over almost every weekend for them to release their energy in our big yard. Even Clayton tries to get into the action!! If they could talk, I am sure all their mom would hear all week is "Can we go to Luke and Sandy's? Can we? Can we? huh? huh?"

Well, Jasmine found the pond. This little fish pond was here from the previous owner. We had hoped to restock it but I think at this point all it would be is a sushi bar for the kids! So we have caved and the dogs now have their very own swimming hole. Sandy has gotten in the action too but Jasmine LOVES to be in there! And it isn't even HOT yet! I am sure once the heat comes they will all be taking dips!

Well.... Luke and Sandy got tired of riding around in the back of our little Nissan Maxima. They were ALWAYS complaining that the leather seats were too cold, or too hot....there wasn't enough room.... "Luke is touching me!"..... " Sandy is looking at me!" ......and on and on and on.....so.... after many sleepless nights and countless dog whispers in our ears about getting their own car......we caved......

Amazing, we know... The dogs love it! They have plenty of room and we can now even carry 5 or 6 if we need too! We even went the extra mile and got them their very own license plates.....the are personalized with a very clever wording which you all will see eventually I am sure!!(Sometimes we sit around wondering when the brainwashing actually began)

What can we say... it's Clayton... we found him in here... apparently its his new favorite place at our house.... until we turn the water on! = ]

Two Peas in a Pod

For those who don't know...... Our hound Luke (SJ's Limit) and my mothers hound Jasmine (LN Double Play) share the same daddy, Molotov. We are not sure if its the family connection, but whenever Jasmine comes over to play, her and Luke are inseparable! Going through some pictures we started to notice the pattern of Luke and Jasmine. Where ever there is one, you will find the other!

Jasmine is notorious for being a chow hound and protecting her food like its her last meal for a week. Luke seems to be the only one that can conquer her!

As seen on previous posts, these two will run and chase each other till they collapse from exhaustion! Luke loves it when Jasmine comes over since he will have a running buddy. Sandy runs some, but bores easily! Jasmine, however, will run until she wears Luke out! Then they will just hang out around the yard.

A greyt sleep over!!!

Jasmine and Clayton's momma had some loud and messy stuff to do around their house so they came and stayed at our house for the weekend.

We have often thought about what it would be like to have more greyhounds and now we know!!

4 is definitely more than 2!! They are a handful but what a joy! Jasmine and Clayton LOVED the fenced in yard! They ran and played with each other till they couldn't run anymore! Exhausted, they came back into the house.

We had to keep tabs on poor Clayton. He has a slipped disk in his lower back so his movements are limited. You can see it in the way he walks and favors one side of his skinny little body. He wanted to run and play so bad with the others but he just can't do it anymore. When his medicine is working he feels like his old self, but if he gets too active he pays for it later with twice as much pain. He will also get grumpy and bark and growl at anyone who gets to close. He also cannot go on the long walks we take the other dogs on. It is so sad to see him want to go so bad then bark and cry when he gets left behind. Just like any human with a slipped disc, surgery is a 50/50 shot and there will always be pain for the rest of his life regardless. He has always had this problem since he has adopted into our family. There is no way to know how long he has had this problem but his medicine has really helped Clayton get his old self back! He is such a greyt dog. Luke, Clayton and Jasmine relaxing on the couch in Oreo cookie formation!

Sandy does not like the couch and chooses to chill out on the floor. She has never liked getting on the couch since she came to us. The only thing she jumps up on is the ottoman upstairs. Silly greyhounds! I love their little quirks!

All in all it was a great weekend! Though cold and rainy, it didn't stop them from wanting to be outside!

Who let the dogs out?!

The fence is complete and open for buisness! We went with a split rail fence with hogwire backing. Luke and Sandy now have a 1/4 acre to romp around in!!It took a couple days for them to realize the yard now extended through to the front yard, but once they finally figured it out it quickly became their favorite place! ( I am sure it has nothing to do with the fact that is where the squirrels hang out!)


They are both still a little hesitant as they continue to explore thier new play area but I am sure they will be racing around in no time!

As much as they loved being outside before, they are already begging at the door all day! I think we might see a doggie door in our future!

Luke and Sandy....a greyhound story...

Luke was born SJ's Limit and came to us in Oct 2006. He came straight from the race track and was very scared and nervous. Every new experience was frighting and he needed lots of reassurance. Building his confidence was not easy. It took him two weeks to learn the stairs, be house broken, walk on hardwood floors, etc. It took two weeks for everything. Then magically, after two weeks, everything clicked and Luke started to become his own hound. We made sure he got plenty of new experiences and now he loves going to new places! But still doesn't like hardwood floors! Luke was not doing well being an only greyhound so that is when we got Sandy.

Sandy was born as Kelso's Goddess and was a life saver for Luke. Sandy came from a foster home and was already housebroken and able to do the stairs. After the tough weeks we had with Luke, she was also a life saver for us! Sandy is the sweetest hound and loves to go anywhere we go. She loves car rides and is always up for a good romp outside. Sandy fit right into our family with no problems!! The first day we had her we saw the change in Luke. He went from the neurotic greyhound to relaxed and happy! Sandy has been a leader for Luke and taught him a lot of things and gotten him into lots of trouble!

Luke follows her around and looks to her for guidance. She has taught him to play, have fun and just relax. Each day we can see their bond growing and you can see how much they need each other. Both of them have enriched our lives more than we could have ever imagined. What was life like before greyhounds? WHO CARES!!!
